Lifestyle: Is It Time To Start Making More Of Your Life?

Heard the phrase 'Living my best life'?

It doesn't have to just be someone else's caption on Instagram. 'YOLO' is a good one too, and it's true, you do only live once so why not make the most of it? It's so easy to get stuck in a rut and be unable to really make the most out of your life.

The truth is that many of us find ourselves in a lifestyle that we never really chose, simply being carried along on a conveyor belt, letting life happen to us rather than us making genuine choices over which direction it goes. Only things don't need to be that way! Here are just a few ways that you can be sure that you're making the most of your life.

Change your Career

If there's one thing that's a huge source of dissatisfaction in life for a lot of people than anything else, it almost certainly has to be their career. Far too often many of us find ourselves working jobs that we don't really care about or even hate simply because we fell into them without thinking and we fall into the trap of thinking 'Better the Devil you know' If you want to start making the most of your life then your career is one of the first places to start, after all, we spend a huge chunk of our time there. Think about what it is that you would actually be happy doing and start taking those all-important first steps down that road. You could do a course to learn new skills or offer to work in your spare time to gain valuable experience. I did both to learn more about PR and social media.

Take up a new hobby

Far too often many of us just divide our time between working and resting. Now, that's pretty understandable since work can often leave you pretty drained. However, the truth is that you need to be able to make more of your time. Otherwise, you're just going to feel like your life is slipping through your fingers. Trying to fit in some form of regular exercise is beneficial to your health or music is a great way to unwind. From digital pianos to electric guitars, picking up an instrument is a seriously fun and creative hobby. Not only that but it really helps you feel like you're taking charge of your time and doing something creative.

Cut toxicity out of your life

The reality is that we only ever have a limited amount of time on this earth so do you really want to spend your life putting up with someone else's toxicity? Whether it's family, friends, a partner or coworkers, if you're being mistreated by someone then you've just got to walk away. You can't live your life for other people, especially if those people are trying to grind you down or stress you out. Learn to say no to their demands and stand up for yourself. Don't let yourself be misled by either by fake promises. I've learnt this the hard way before and we're often blind to it until people show their true colours.

The reality is that if you really want a life that you're in control of then you need to be willing to take risks. The most common reason that a lot of people end up not really making that much of an effort to guide their lives in the direction that they want is that they're afraid of failing. After all, it's a whole lot easier just to let life happen to you. That way you can say that it's not your fault if things don't work out. However, the old saying that fortune favours the bold is completely true.

If you really want to be able to make the most of your life, you've got to be willing to get out there and take charge of it today!
